School Closure Y7-9
Posted: 18.03.2020

Dear Parent/Carer,

I am writing to update you on the situation at Archbishop Sentamu Academy in  response to the spread of the Coronavirus.

Having assessed our staffing levels, it is with the deepest regret that I have to inform you that we will have insufficient staff tomorrow to be able to open the school safely for all students. From tomorrow therefore (Thursday 19th March), we are having to close the Academy to year 7, 8 and 9.  I am pleased however that we will remain open for students in Years 10, 11, 12 and 13. This decision has been taken as a last resort; I am sure you appreciate that we need to prioritise year groups with upcoming exams so that they are in the best position possible to sit these.

The closure to year groups 7, 8 and 9 will continue until Easter; we will review this position nearer the Easter break and update you accordingly.  Please be reassured that during this period the Academy will follow all government advice and directives.

If your child is eligible for a Free School Meal and they are not self-isolating they can collect a lunch bag from the main student entrance at 12.00 – 12.30 each day.  Please enter the school grounds through the main school entrance outside reception. If your child is self-isolating, please feel free to send another family member with your child’s ID card. Breakfast Club will remain open to Y10 & Y11 students, starting at 8am.

We have shared details of online resources for students to use by informing students, Facebook, Twitter, our website and via text; if you follow this link it will take you to this information.  We are also providing paper based resources for those students who have already informed us they cannot access the online ones.  If your son/daughter does not have these paper resources and they cannot access work online please contact us at There is an expectation that students engage with  these resources and where directed, complete work and return it to their teacher. Teachers will share resources lesson by lesson with students. All resources can be found on the main page of the website at

We will keep you fully informed via our school website in the coming days and weeks. As normal the Academy is available to deal with any other concerns or queries in the usual way.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your families at this difficult time for our community.

Kind regards,

Chay Bell
Academy Principal
